Waste disposal plan and RENTRI Decree: what you need to know.
What changes for companies and citizens?
Waste management in Italy is changing following the introduction of the National Waste Management Plan (PNGR) and the new RENTRI Decree, tools to make the system more efficient, digital and sustainable.
The PNGR establishes guidelines for more uniform and responsible waste management throughout Italy, and the main goals are related to decreased waste production, increased awareness of separate waste collection, and proper landfill disposal.
The RENTRI (National Electronic Registry for Waste Traceability) decree, on the other hand, introduced earlier by Decree 59/2023 to digitize the monitoring of waste, especially special and hazardous waste, aims to limit bureaucracy and increase waste traceability as well as prevent illicit disposal.
Who must join RENTRI Decree
Must register:
- Companies that produce special waste;
- Transporters;
- Treatment plants and brokers.
Small businesses, in a simplified form, will also have to comply by the established deadlines. For companies, it will therefore be a matter of changing the way they manage registers and forms, which will become digital to speed up processes.
For citizens this should benefit in having less abandoned waste and more guarantees on recycling.
The Waste Plan and the RENTRI Decree mark an important turning point for environmental management in Italy: more control, less waste and more sustainability.
